Reading can open up a world of possibilities for you. When you read, you open yourself to new adventures, lessons and perspectives. Reading about different types of people and their adversities helps you to understand others better, which is important in your career. If you read often, you'll likely speak more professionally and confidently than others, and with less effort. Understanding the art of language will set you apart from others in the work world.

Maybe you are not an everyday reader, but you are in a moment of your life in which you want some guidance to get the job you desire. Books spark creativity and prepare you to be a persevering person. To be prepared for any circumstances helps you when these present themselves. If you are at this point of your working career, these are some books that can help you navigate through this important decision, and to path your way to success.

1) Designing your life

This book is a New York Time Bestseller written by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. As its name implies, it shows readers how to design a life they love, using design thinking like the ones used in regular life things such as chairs or a pair of headphones, a laptop or a smartphone, and how to apply it to design your career and your life.

2) The 5 AM Club

For those early risers, this is a good fit for you. According to the author, waking up an hour earlier every day can help your overall health by reducing stress, and will help you to be more focused and more creative, which will lead to your success.

3) Power Moves

This book is especially recommended for women. It goes through women’s careers and how to transition and grow within them. It focuses on some key principles and letting the euphemism of a dream job aside, taking control over your own finances, the meaning of power moves, and their importance.

4) Find Your Why

This is a follow-up to the popular book Start Your Why. This edition focuses on how teams and leaders can find inspiration within the workplace, by laying out a roadmap for professionals to find their "why" and implement it, asking questions like, "Can I have more than one 'why?'" Or, "What if my 'why' looks like my competitor’s?".

5) Expect to Win

Written by Carla Harris, the managing director of global capital markets at Morgan Stanley and has been named Fortune magazine's 50 Most Powerful Black Executives in America, Essence magazine's 50 Women Who Are Shaping the World, and Black Enterprise's 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. This is a book to learn about how to be successful in any workplace, authenticity, the power of perception, leveraging your voice, and showing up as your best self every day.

6) Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life

In an era full of distractions, even in our own hands with our ever-present smartphones, this is a very helpful book to explore not just the psychology behind why we’re so obsessed with our smartphones, but also shares a four-step model on how to keep it in check.

Not everybody’s first instinct is to go find a book about whatever needs you have at the moment, but if you’re one of those who don’t mind a good and productive reading session, these books should be your go-to to help you in your job search this year.
